Harpist and Composer



Harpist and composer, Michael Johnson (OAM) has been performing in major concert venues and festivals throughout Australia.
Michael is mainly known for his work on the harp, but also performs on and composes for piano, wind, percussion and strings.
As a multi-instrumentalist he has been composing for films, documentaries and for commissioned projects and dance performances. He has been the resident musician at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne for over two decades, performing in the Harp the Gardens recitals, Wednesday Concerts in Spring, Concerts on the Lake and the Twilight Music concert Series, providing his music for thousands of overseas guests and visitors to the gardens. His compositions are regularly aired on national radio and television. He performs regularly as a solo artist and with his groups, Cosmos, Breathe Music and Time Traveller.

    As well as a concert performer, Michael has been working in the field of therapeutic support through music. His tranquil harp music has been an integral part of the program at the Gawler Foundation retreats for over thirty years, including Michael's own Music and Mindfulness Meditation retreat . He is also the Music and Mindfulness coodinator at Delmont psychiatric Hospital . He runs seminars, workshops and inservices for businesses for staff professional development. The Botanic Gardens have also embrased Michael's therapeutic background and host Michael's Harp Meditations in the Arid garden, Fern Gully and Meuller Hall.
    He is currently working at EACH (Mental Health support in Australia)
